Usher Tells Kendrick Lamar to ‘Savor’ Super Bowl Halftime Show

Usher wants Kendrick Lamar to make it his intention to “savor” being the Super Bowl LIX halftime show headliner.

The R&B icon was a guest on the Tuesday episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show and shared his advice for Kendrick

“I haven’t had the chance to catch up with him and tell him, one, how excited I am,” Usher said about the 22-time Grammy winner.

After revealing that he’s talked to the show’s producers and Kendrick’s creative team, he urged the GNX rapper to “savor the moment.”

“‘Cause you get obsessed in trying to build the best performance but you don’t realize that it’s really about enjoying it,” he continued.

“It might not be perfect, everything may not go exactly the way it’s supposed to but if you are in your mind and like stuck trying to make something perfect you’re not going to look up and smell the flowers And realize, ‘Wait a minute, I’m here. And I get a chance to have this moment and I’m not going to get it again, I’m not going to get this moment back.'”

He concluded, “So my encouragement to him is to really be present and I hope that he uses the moment well.”

Usher also called Kendrick a “benchmark for what it is to be an artist.”

Usher called his Super Bowl moment the “top of the top,” and acknowledged that “everybody wants that moment.”

“You want to know that you’ve amassed enough of a catalog to play for an entire world,” he added. No matter how many stages you’re on, you’re never going to play for a bigger audience.”

Usher was joined by special guests Ludacris, Lil Jon, H.E.R., Alicia Keys and Jermaine Dupri.

Next in line is Kendrick, who will take on the Caesars Superdome on Sunday (February 9) when the Kansas City Chiefs play against the Philadelphia Eagles.
