Billy Bolt, the highly-successful motorcycle rider from Wallsend, won his fifth world championship at Newcastle Arena this weekend.
The North East native claimed victory in the SuperEnduro World Championship in front of his home crowd on Saturday.
The 27-year-old had already dominated the competition in recent years, winning four of the last five titles. Ahead of Saturday’s racing, Billy knew that winning another world championship in front of his friends and family could be the crowning achievement of his entire career.
Speaking to Chronicle Live on Friday, he said: “I’m excited to be honest, it’s always nice to be back. It’s a busy week, I don’t get to spend much time here and don’t get to race here, and there are a lot of people to see and say hello to.

“For this kind of event and dirt bike racing to be in arenas in the UK is pretty amazing in general, but the fact that it’s worked out here in Newcastle, so close to where I grew up and so many people can come see me is the cherry on top.”
When Saturday morning came, Billy took to the track to practice for the evening’s action, before the doors opened to fans. The competition is split into three races, and Billy qualified comfortably, before picking up victories in the first two, looking unbeatable in the process.
What followed has been described as the ‘best race of the season’ by fans, with Billy duking it out with his rivals and coming out victorious with a tremendous display. In the end, he was able to lift the world championship trophy above his head for the fifth time in six years, and this one being in his backyard made it extra special.
After his victory, Billy took to Instagram and shared a video showing his recent trip to St James’ Park and footage from his impressive win. The Red Bull athlete is now looking ahead to next season, when he will try to repeat his achievement once again.
