Newcastle United fans are dreaming of Wembley once again after their side reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
Eddie Howe’s men were dominant in the first half and took the lead inside ten minutes when Sandro Tonali’s sweet, spinning effort nestled in the back of the net. That was the Italian’s first goal for the Magpies since his suspension.
Tonali quickly followed his first since returning with his second. This time, he met an in-swinging corner to volley the ball home however he was aided by a fortunate deflection.
Just over 20 minutes remaining the match was put beyond doubt as Bruno Guimaraes unselfishly squared the ball for Fabian Schar to make it 3-0. Yoane Wissa scored a consolation in stoppage time but it was not enough to alter the outcome.

When is the Carabao Cup semi-final draw?
Newcastle will discover their opponents for the semi-finals on Thursday evening following the culmination of Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Manchester United. Currently, the draw is scheduled to start around 10.30pm on Thursday, December 19, but that time is subject to change depending on how the match unfolds.
Who could Newcastle face in the semi-finals?
Only Premier League clubs remain in the semi-finals of the competition and the draw is not restricted by regions. As such, any of the following sides could be Newcastle’s opponents in the last four.
- Arsenal
- Liverpool
- Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester United
When will the semi-final ties be played?
According to the EFL’s website, the first leg of the semi-final will take place on the week commencing January 6, before the return leg is then played on the week commencing February 3.

Should they make it that far, Newcastle will travel to Wembley Stadium on Sunday, March 16.
