Which? has sounded the alarm on “dud deals” that shoppers should steer clear of this Black Friday. The consumer watchdog singled out a number of deals they say should be avoided this Black Friday
They say the Beko CNG4601DVPS fridge freezer, priced at £479, is not a good deal, advising shoppers to give it a miss due to its “inconsistent” cooling and freezing capabilities alongside “poor” energy efficiency. The Swan Alexa Smart Kettle SK14650BLKN, costing £59, also came under fire from Which? for being a “terrible choice” for those in hard water areas, as it “boils slowly, overboils for too long and has a lack of filter”.
The Kinderkraft 2 in 1 Nea pram, with a price tag of £349, was another product to avoid, having “performed very poorly” in lab tests earlier this year, presenting “a range of safety issues” reports Birmingham Live.
Which? highlighted concerns such as a harness that could break under pressure, a plastic toggle on the rain cover that detached too easily posing a choking risk, and a broken spring in the wheel suspension.
Which? also warned against the Swan Nordic ST14620WHTN toaster, which retails at £49, criticising it for inadequate test performance and toasting slots that are “are not deep enough”, leading to “uneven or uncooked bread”. The Withings Scanwatch 2 42mm, priced at £249.95, was labelled by Which? as “a flawed watch that does not track heart rates accurately”, lacking in smart features.
The Hisense HS214 sound bar, costing £78.17, was also criticised by Which? for its “nasty audio quality and ease of listening issues”, along with a “lacked a proper display”.
The Tower Optimum VL100 cordless vacuum cleaner, priced at £119, was dubbed a flop after it “struggled to pick up dirt from deep within the carpet pile” during assessments by Which?
Harry Rose, Editor of Which? Magazine, advised: “It can be tempting to buy on impulse in the Black Friday sales, but our list of dud deals shows why finding the time to do some research could be worth your while and save you money. Which? reviews are based on rigorous and independent testing and separate products that have a hefty price tag but simply don’t perform from the hidden gems that punch above their weight.”
