As the countdown begins for the highly anticipated premiere of ITV1’s latest thriller Red Eye, viewers are gearing up to embark on a gripping journey filled with twists, turns, and heart-pounding suspense. Set to air on Sunday at 9pm, this high-octane drama promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats from start to finish. But who are the talented actors bringing this electrifying story to life? Let’s take a closer look at the stellar cast of Red Eye.
Leading the ensemble is Richard Armitage, known for his stand-out performances in Fool Me Once (alongside Michelle Keegan) and The Hobbit trilogy. In Red Eye, Richard takes on the role of Dr. Matthew Nolan, a man caught in the midst of a gripping international conspiracy.
“He’s a doctor, so on paper he should be extremely trustworthy,” said Richard in an interview with the Radio Times. “I trusted him at the beginning of the script, but then there were points in the story where I started doubting him. Is he a spy? Is he some sort of courier or mule? He had gained my trust, but then I wondered if this man was really everything he was telling us. It flips between scenes, and you wonder what he’s up to, which is really interesting to play.”
Accused of a heinous crime, Matthew finds himself handcuffed and under the watchful eye of London detective DC Hana Li, portrayed by the talented Jing Lusi, known for her breakout role in Crazy Rich Asians. Jing has also had notable appearances in Heart of Stone, Holby City, Gangs of London, Lucky Man, SAS: Red Notice, Man vs Bee and The Feed, among others.
As the tension escalates, the plot thickens with the introduction of Lesley Sharp as MI5 boss Madeline Delaney. You may recognise her from roles in Scott & Bailey, The Full Monty, Bob & Rose, Afterlife, Before We Die, Paranoid and Playing the Field.
Joining the fray is Jemma Moore as journalist Jess Li, whose quest for the truth leads her into the heart of the action. The actress has previously landed minor roles in Lockwood & Co, Silent Witness and Two Doors Down.
Dan Li, known for his roles in Vigil, Luther: The Fallen Sun, The Lazurus Project and The Continental, stars as Toni Zhang, a mysterious man with a gun who is travelling on the flight to China.
Sarah Toogood plays Elizabeth Burk, Matthew’s friend and attendee at the same conference. She’s had minor roles in Sex Education and Doctors. Lucianne McEvoy, best known for Shetland, plays Kate Ward, another colleague of Matthew’s.
Jonathan Aris joins the cast as John Tennant, Madeline’s closest rival in MI5. You might recognise him from Sherlock, The End of the F***ing World, Lucky Man and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
