Ye, the artist formerly know as Kanye West, missed Donald Trump’s inauguration after he was asked to apologize again for his antisemitic remarks.
TMZ obtained a clip of an unreleased conversation between Ye and Justin LaBoy for his podcast, The Download. The episode aired at a Grammys after-party on Sunday night, which saw Ye in attendance.
“I was gonna go to the inauguration until [I was told] I had to write another apology, saying yeah, that I wasn’t … what’s the word?” Ye said.
“Antisemitic,” LaBoy responded when Ye pretended to forget the term.
Kanye has made numerous comments about Jews in the past, previously saying he’ll go “death con 3 on Jewish people,” mentioning the “Jewish underground media mafia,” praising Hitler and saying he can see “good” in him, and more.
At a Vultures listening party in December 2023, YesJulz recorded a video of him ranting about Hitler and Zionists, which later went viral and prompted Ye to issue an apology.
“I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community for any unintended outburst caused by my words or actions, it was not my intention to hurt or disrespect, and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused,” he later wrote in an Instagram statement.
“I am committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding in the future. Your forgiveness is important to me, and I am committed to making amends and promoting unity.”
Ye later touched on the controversy in the Vultures title track, rapping, “How I’m anti-Semitic? I just fucked a Jewish bitch.”
Elsewhere in Ye and Justin’s conversation, the pair discussed Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef. “If you rap against Kendrick, you will lose. This man does this,” Ye stated emphatically.
Ye did give Drake his flowers, comparing him to Steph Curry and recognizing the 6 God for what he’s contributed to music.
“You can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song or something,” Ye said. “You know what it was is, like, look at the Tyler, the Creator freestyle that he did. ‘That Guy,’ right? Drake added something to the algorithm, to our frequency. He advanced us. Future advanced us. And now, Kendrick has advanced the frequency.”
Ye is gearing up for the release of his solo album, Bully. According to TMZ, he announced that the project will arrive on June 15 on his daughter, North West’s birthday. Bully will be his first solo offering since 2021’s Donda.
