It’s often said that these days there is a day for absolutely anything from pinot grigio to pugs and this Sunday, February 9, is National Pizza Day. And, with that in mind, we want you to vote for your favourite place to get a slice of the action in and around Newcastle.
According to Google, National Pizza Day is an annual date in the calendar to ‘to celebrate pizza’s cultural impact and versatility, and to enjoy your favorite slices.’ We are rather spoilt for choice when it comes to great places to go for pizza in and around the city centre and, here, we round up a few of them.
If you’re after a bit of pizza in town, the options were recently bolstered by the arrival of Rudys, which has been on lists of the best places in the world to get a pizza, let alone Newcastle, following its success in other UK cities like Leeds and Manchester. Other options just a stone’s throw away from Rudys on Grey Street are Pizza Punks and Zizzi, while down on the Quayside there is old of Newcastle’s oldest Italians – Unos, a big favourite with Newcastle United’s Entertainers, who recently had a reunion meal there, as well as Scream For PIzza, which is also in Sandyford.
The city centre is also home to Grainger Market favourite Slice, Central Oven & Shaker, just opposite Central Station, Twenty Twenty on the Bigg Market and Dough Daze, a quick walk from Haymarket Metro Station.
Not far out of the city centre, there is highly rated Westgate Road haunt Fuochi; Jesmond is home to Francesca’s and Pizza Glob, while Koru is the place to go for pizza in Gosforth.
