2 Chainz Thought Nothing of Kendrick Lamar Naming Him in “Not Like Us”

2 Chainz has revealed Kendrick Lamar mentioning his name in the Drake diss song “Not Like Us” was nothing but clever wordplay.

During an interview with The Breakfast Club alongside Larry June, 2 Chainz was asked about K Dot using his name and several other Atlanta artists that Drake has collaborated with to say he’s a modern-day colonizer on “Not Like Us.” Kendrick spit the verse “2 Chainz say you good, but he lied,” and according to the Atlanta rapper, that line must have been a callback to his 2012 collaborative effort with Drake, “No Lie.”

“I just think it was kind of like some wordplay cause Drake and I got a song called ‘No Lie,'” said 2 Chainz. “And so when he said he lied, it just felt like I don’t know, but I didn’t take it as no kind of way. I don’t think he was taking a shot at me. I’ve heard all type of instances where somebody want me to say something back. I just think it was a moment where it was about Atlanta artists.”

2 Chainz added that he was cool with the mention but admitted the line caused a lot of commotion, from rappers wanting to stay out of the beef to others wondering why Kendrick didn’t include them in the verse. However, Larry June claimed he never heard K Dot mention Chainz or even fully heard “Not Like Us.”

“I never heard that full song,” said June. “I fuck with everybody. I just didn’t particularly hear that song fully. I heard a lot of it on Instagram and stuff like that. But I was doing the album with him at the time, so I wasn’t really listening to too much shit like that.”

2 Chainz supported June’s claim and explained that he loves working with guys like him and Lil Wayne because they’re all in their own “bubble” and not fully paying attention to all the noise around them.
