5 big decisions Eddie Howe has made for final Newcastle clash at Brentford as Anthony Gordon out

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon was the star omission from Eddie Howe’s team sheet at Brentford for the final day encounter in the capital.

Gordon suffered a whack to the ankle at Old Trafford in midweek and has not trained since with Howe explaining he was a doubt ahead of the game. But he was not the only to be left off the team sheet for the Toon boss and it remains to be seen whether he travels to Australia for the post-season tour.

Nick Pope

The England international was preferred to Martin Dubravka after the 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford last week. Pope has been restored between the posts for the first time since December when he originally hurt his shoulder against Man United.

Joelinton

The Brazilian replaced Elliot Anderson in only this third game back after recovering from a thigh injury. Joelinton’s midfielder enforcer presence is required in what is a vital game.

Harvey Barnes

It is £38million man Barnes who gets the nod ahead of injured Gordon this afternoon. Barnes starts ahead of Miguel Almiron for the crunch encounter against the Bees.

Fabian Schar

The Switzerland international is back in from the start after recent hamstring trouble. Having played in the last two matces, Schar starts instead of Kieran Trippier with the right-back benched instead of Emil Krafth.

Callum Wilson

The number 9 is on the bench after missing a clutch of games due to tightness and illness. The England international will be a good back-up in what is a crucial encounter.

UNITED: Pope, Krafth, Schar, Burn, Hall, Longstaff, Joelinton, Bruno, Barnes, Isak, J Murphy.

Subs: Dubravka, Trippier, Dummett, Wilson, Ritchie, Almiron, Anderson, White, A Murphy
