Gosforth’s Osters restaurant makes Michelin Guide less than four months after opening

A suburban Newcastle seafood restaurant has made it into the Michelin Guide less than four months after opening.

Osters opened on Gosforth High Street in November 2023 in the former Stock Gosforth restaurant and has already been picked up by the Michelin Guide. Chef Kleo Tabuku opened the restaurant with his partner Lisa Hide as front-of-house manager; around a year after their debut Lovage, which also got an entry into the esteemed food guide in a matter of months.

Kleo says that the Osters menu draws inspiration from across the globe, from Europe to the Far East, but also has a “distinct, local flavour.” Freshly foraged ingredients sit alongside seasonal ingredients; with a strong emphasis on fish and seafood, which Michelin reviewers picked out as a highlight.

The Michelin Guide wrote: “The chefs are aware of the quality of their ingredients, eschewing overcomplication in favour of simple combinations – like Pink Fir potatoes, tenderstem and beurre blanc accompanying a generous helping of sea trout”

Kleo is delighted that Osters has been recognised and said: “We were thrilled when Lovage got into the Michelin guide and to have Osters now added too is a real testament to the hard work the teams at both restaurants. We have stayed true to our vision of restaurants which offer authentic flavours and use the freshest of ingredients and we are delighted that this has been recognised.”

Stuart Young of Northern Bar Management added: “We had seen how well received Lovage was from day one, which inspired us to take over the site of Gosforth and create Osters. For it to have also achieved this amazing accolade in such a short space of time is absolutely incredible.”
