Anna Samson is set to make waves as the first ever female Detective Inspector in a Death in Paradise series, as stars in the coming spinoff Return to Paradise as DI Mackenzie Clarke. It’s not just her on-screen talent which is capturing the attention of fans though. The British Australian star, known for her role as controversial Mia Anderson on Aussie soap Home and Away, has an off-screen life which is just as fascinating for fans.
One such aspect of her life behind the scenes which has excited fans? Her previous relationship with an actor that fans of the soap will recognise.
Anna, 34, was previously in a relationship with fellow actor Lee Jones – her on-screen co-star from the famous soap. However, Summer Bay isn’t actually where the couple first met, with their real-life romance having began years ago.
Anna, who is British-Australian, first met Australian actor Lee on the set of the 2017 TV thriller mini series Wake in Fright, where the two shared a connection which quickly grew beyond their work. However, on-screen, the pair actually played the characters Mick and Joe Jaffries – not a romantic couple, but rather, brother and sister.
Lee later appeared on Home and Away in 2021 as ambulance officer Luke, this time joining girlfriend Anna on-screen, who starred on the show as gym owner Mia.
The couple made their relationship public by taking to social media to share sweet personal pics of them behind the scenes, giving fans a glimpse into their life away from the cameras.
While Anna’s career has continued to rise, she and Lee have kept their romance relatively out of the spotlight. However, the two have not posted a couples photo online since 2021 and have remained quiet on the current status of their relationship, so it’s not known whether the two TV stars are still together. However, earlier this year, Anna did share a cute comment on Instagram, posting two loving heart-eyes emojis under a photo of Lee.
Anna isn’t one to shy away from opening up to her fans, of course. The actress also took to Instagram to pen an open letter which revealed the abuse she had received from “dangerous” online trolls – and her damning response to the cyber bullying.
Fans will next see Anna back on screens to take the lead as Detective Inspector Mackenzie Clarke in Return to Paradise, which will see her star as an Australia ex-pat London police detective who must return to her Australian hometown and solve a murder case with the local police.
Return to Paradise will air on BBC One at 8pm on Friday 22 November, with the full series available on BBC iPlayer the same day
