The last bowl of rice and beans has been eaten, the dunny has been emptied for the final time and only the critters and creepy crawlies are left as the I’m A Celebrity celebs have all left the camp. Danny Jones was crowned as King of the Jungle on Sunday 8 December, and after a reunion party on Monday night for campmates including GK Barry, Coleen Rooney, Dean McCullough, Oti Mabuse and Richard Coles, the celebrities from this year’s show have started to head to Brisbane Airport for flights home to the UK.
Spotted on Tuesday 10 December were Coleen Rooney and her two youngest sons, Kitt and Cass, with Cass proudly wearing his mum’s jungle hat. She was seen with her family at check-in with multiple bags, despite only having a few changes of clothing in camp, while Barry McGuigan and his wife also walked through the departure lounge.
Also heading back home were journalist Jane Moore, who was the first celebrity to be voted out of I’m A Celeb, and GK Barry, who departed with her girlfriend, footballer Ella Rutherford. Some of the celebrities may be feeling a bit hungover as they start the 24 hour journey back to the UK, as on Monday night they all got together for a camp reunion party where everyone celebrated Danny Jones’s win.
The group of 11 celebrities and their families hit the dance floor at JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort and Spa in Australia’s Surfer’s Paradise, with GK Barry sharing a glimpse of the festivities on social media. However, the 12th contestant in the show, Tulisa Contostavlos, was not there as she had already returned to the UK.
Since exiting the jungle, runner up Coleen Rooney has chatted about her experiences in camp. The mum of four spoke to the Mirror about the surprise of her own mum, Colette, and Coleen’s youngest sons Kit and Cass, surprising her with a visit during the show.
“I do snap myself out of things really quickly, and I’m not a crier, but when my mum came in that really surprised me. You know, when I think back to that moment, it was like someone had told me someone had died. And I don’t think I’ve been shocked more than that in my whole life. That is the biggest shock I’ve ever had.”
She went on to open up about the struggles of saying goodbye to her mum, comparing it to her isolating stint in America when husband Wayne was playing for DC United in Washington DC in 2018 : “I was like ‘you’re here now, I’m not going to let you leave.’ My mum said ‘do you feel like you are in America now?’ When I was in America, I was homesick and whenever we got together, we didn’t want to leave. And the only other time she said that to me was during COVID, when we couldn’t see each other.”
Travelling back with her youngest sons, Coleen will be reunited with husband Wayne and older sons Kai, 15 and Klay, 11, when she gets back to the UK.
