Alexander Isak has explained why he could not continue before the mid-way point against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Sweden striker hobbled off with 21 minutes on the clock at Selhurst Park leaving Newcastle United with a tough task in the capital. United had no shots on target and drew 1-1 after conceding a 94th minute equaliser in the Premier League.
Isak had missed a handful of games with a toe injury but has made a recovery to take on Liverpool at St James’ Park.
Isak told beIN Sports: “I am all right. Not the best result. But I am looking forward to Liverpool and I feel good as well.
“It was a knock to my hip. It was too painful to carry on. But it has developed pretty good, so I feel good and hopefully 100%.”
The Magpies face a Liverpool side who are running away with things at the top of the table. However, despite Arne Slot’s side being in red hot form, Isak fancy Newcastle’s chances on Tyneside.
Isak said: “I definitely feel that we have the quality to win these type of games. Especially playing at home. We have done that many times. We can beat any team but we want to beat a team that are at the same level.
“Every game lives its own life and I think it is going to be a good platform, we feel good and motivated to get out of bad form, I would not say bad form because before the international break we had a good run of wins so I would not say bad form. But we want to get back to winning ways.”
