Alexander Isak has laughed off talk of a reported £150m price tag and insists his full focus is on Newcastle United amid lingering talk over his future.
The Swede was on target again as the Magpies swept Manchester United aside on Monday evening, finding the net for the sixth successive game. That’s now eight goals in December for Isak as he continues to improve under Eddie Howe.
Speculation has been rife over a potential exit in recent months, with headlines this week suggesting a fee of £150m may be enough to lure the former Real Sociedad man away from St James’ Park. However, Isak is shutting out any of that outside noise to instead focus on firing Newcastle back into Europe.
After his Old Trafford strike, Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones asked: “I don’t know if you read the papers, Alexander, but there was a few yesterday saying the club had put a 150 million pounds price tag on your head. What’s your reaction when you see stories like that?
To which the Newcastle star responded: “No, it doesn’t really faze me too much. I think that’s more for you guys and for fans to talk about.
“I’m in the middle of the season and I think it’s going really well for me and the team, so, you know, all my focus is here and I’m really happy with how things are going. My focus is on the pitch.
Pundit and former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher chimed in at that point, to add: “Alexander, I absolutely adore you. I think you’re a fantastic player and if I had £150million, I’d pay it to have you at any club!”
Isak has now scored against Liverpool, Brentford, Leicester City, Ipswich Town x3, Aston Villa and Manchester United in December to end the year on a high. It is now five wins on the spin for Newcastle, with the north east outfit back up to fifth in the Premier League table.
