Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott have reportedly ended their relationship, with fans spotting signs of trouble brewing. The 32 year old Made In Chelsea star has been dating Zara, 28, since 2019, but rumours suggest they’ve decided to part ways due to ongoing issues. Over the past year, the pair were seen having a heated argument and spending time apart. Zara chose to stay home while Sam was filming I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in Australia, and they even spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve separately.
During their time together, the couple built a home next door to Sam’s sister Louise and her fiancé Ryan Libbey, and they share two cats – Albus and Cedric. Let’s take a look at the signs that hinted at their split…

They spent the festive season apart
This past Christmas, the couple didn’t spend the day together, causing some fans to worry about their relationship. Sam gave up his Christmas Day to help those less fortunate, volunteering for a charity to deliver gifts.
Zara spent the day with her family, but amid whispers of a rift, she proudly displayed two bespoke paintings she commissioned for Sam as a heartfelt Christmas present. The Love Island alum shared, “Sam’s Xmas pressie from me! I wanted to get something super meaningful so I had these paintings made… they look a bit random but they are all the meaningful things he loves. They’re by @brittyflynn she’s absolutely incredible,” reports the Mirror. Despite this, the pair celebrated New Year’s Eve separately.
She didn’t go with him to Australia
While Sam jetted off to Australia in November for his gig on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, Zara stayed back in the UK, sparking curiosity among fans. In an Instagram Q&A, when quizzed about not accompanying Sam, Zara explained that her commitment to filming a BBC documentary on stalking meant she couldn’t join him, and Sam’s schedule didn’t allow for guests either.
She clarified: “You guys are funny. I’ve had this question so many times! Well firstly I’m filming my documentary about stalking at the moment and it’s really not possible to take time off filming at short notice. Sam’s show only got confirmed last month.”
“I am working with some amazing women. It wouldn’t feel right, and I wouldn’t want to just pull out of filming and let everyone down, especially the brave women who have come forward to share their stories with me. Secondly; Sam has to get up for work at 1am every day, it’s a closed set so I wouldn’t be able to go to work with him. I’d just be sat at the hotel while he’s working.”

Crisis talks
Over the summer, rumours swirled that the couple were having “crisis talks” about their relationship. Zara and Sam reportedly had a massive row, with the former Love Island star storming out of their London flat and retreating to her family’s home for a bit.
By August, however, it seemed they had mended fences as Zara was seen celebrating Sam’s birthday.

Public argument
In June, a photo surfaced showing Zara seemingly shouting at Sam in public after he played for England in Soccer Aid 2024. The images captured a tense exchange between the pair, with Zara appearing quite animated as she pointed her finger at her boyfriend following the star-studded afterparty. They seemed engrossed in their heated conversation as they waited for their taxi to arrive.
Zara has cleared the air about that ‘argument’ with Sam , posting a hilarious caption on her photo: “Why did this make me laugh so much btw,” she wrote. “‘Stop saying you should have scored!!!! You did your best and that’s all that matters!!!! You need to stop doubting yourself!!! It looks like we are having an argument but I’m actually telling him positive affirmations in a very passionate manner! [laughing-face emojis].”

First post after split rumours
Amid the buzz of their supposed split, Sam cheekily took to Instagram, hinting at excitement for 2025, saying it’ll be “the best year ever”.
In a bold clip, he exclaimed: “New year! 2025 baby come on let’s have it! I can’t wait. The New year is going to be amazing and you’re going to have the best year ever. And you know I’m always right,” followed by what seemed like a smooch to his camera.
