Amazon shoppers rush to buy ‘godsend’ car dehumidifier that ‘stops condensation’

Amazon shoppers have been snapping up a budget-friendly product that helps to combat damp in your car, promising to put a stop to the tedious task of drying the inside of your windscreen.

The Hillington Reusable Car Interior Dehumidifier Bag first became a bestseller in the autumn as an easy way to tackle condensation and mould inside the car in the winter months, and thousands more shoppers have been snapping it up amid the February cold snap. Priced at £21.99 for a pair, the bags contain silicone crystals that absorb moisture from the air around them, and are reusable too – simply pop them in the microwave or on a radiator to dry out.

The bags can absorb up to 400ml of moisture, with a colour-changing spot in the middle that will turn from blue to pink to let you know when they’re full, and they also come with an anti-slip mounting mat ideal for sitting on your dashboard. With more than 5,000 reviews, the bags have earned an average rating of 4.3 out of five stars from Amazon shoppers who have hailed them as a “godsend”.

One person praised: “These bags significantly reduced the condensation on the windows of my car. They stopped working after three weeks, but four minutes in the microwave and they’re good to go again with the blue spot restored.”

Another fed back: “I’ve been using one bag for a few weeks in my car whenever it’s raining and have wet dogs in the car and it’s been great for keeping the moisture out of my car. The blue to pink indicator is really helpful for knowing when to remove the bag and dry it out before reusing. Would recommend to anyone who usually has a lot of condensation and a damp car in the winter months.”

A third reviewer said: “I was a bit sceptic about these but they really do work. My car sits outside all year as I don’t have a garage. I leave for work at 6am and these are a godsend. They come with a rubber mat which holds the pillow firmly so not moving across the car. I’m really satisfied with these.”

And someone else wrote: “My car had suddenly become full of condensation and moisture. Got one of these inside and it’s much better now! Really easy to use and dry, I just put it on the radiator.”

Overall, 81% of Amazon shoppers have rated the dehumidifier bags either four or the full five stars. However, some customers gave more mixed reviews on their effectiveness, with one describing them as “useful but not a magic cure”, while a few others said they “couldn’t see much of a difference” to condensation levels in their vehicle.

There are similar products available for the same price or less elsewhere, such as the Pingi Reusable Car Dehumidifier for £6.29 at Euro Parts, the Simply Reusable Car Dehumidifier for £9.99 at Halfords, and the Haltons Reusable Car Dehumidifier for £9.99 at B&Q. And back at Amazon, another condensation-tackling product in the bestseller this week are the Ansio Dehumidifiers, which work in a similar way using moisture-absorbing crystals and are priced at £11.45 for a pack of 10, with their small size ideal for inside cars as well as wardrobes or cupboards – read more about them here.
