ASAP Rocky clarified what side he’s on in Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and (previously) J. Cole’s beef during his set at Rolling Loud this weekend.
The rapper chose his set to debut a new song that briefly covers hip-hop’s biggest feud in some time. Instead of siding with Drake and J. Cole against Kendrick or vice versa, Rocky announced he’s on another one altogether.
“I ain’t on J.Cole, I ain’t on Drake, I ain’t on Kendrick side / I choose homicide, they gonna see a different side,” he rapped.
Rocky’s set was full of surprises. After hopping out of a helicopter to open his Rolling Loud set, Rocky treated the festival-goers to a few new songs that will potentially appear on his forthcoming album, Testing.
On one of the songs, Rocky threw some of his signature shade with the line, “N***as do the most when they irrelevant, claiming ASAP, but we were never friends.”
Rihanna, who was there watching him perform, was the subject of another unreleased song in which Rocky rapped about their sex life.
“Me and my bae ain’t have no fucking problems come between us, me and my baby mom ain’t letting no condoms come between us,” rhymed Rocky.
The third, and perhaps the most exciting, song that Rocky performed was “Your Honor.” It’s the full version of a snippet, produced by Metro Boomin, that originally hit the internet in February.
Amid all of the fun, Rocky took some time to dedicate his set to immigrants and people in Los Angeles that were affected by the city’s devastating fires.
“I see unity. I see so many types of people. I see so many different colors,” Rocky said. “I would like to dedicate this show to anybody that was affected by those fires. To anybody that was affected by the immigration laws. My heart goes out to you.
“We all one people. Shit got me feeling fucked up, but I’m happy to be here and all that,” he added. “Thank you to everybody that prayed for me and my family, and all that. I appreciate y’all.”
