Beautiful North East ‘paradise’ beats Northumberland beaches in ranking of UK’s best

While they have received both national and international acclaim, Northumberland’s stunning beaches have been beaten by a North East ‘rival’ with its own ‘beautiful coastline’n current rankings of the best in the UK.

Here at ChronicleLive we are very well aware of the fact that the entire North East coast has some beautiful stretches of sand, from South Shields to Seahouse and Seaburn to Bambugh and, speaking of Seaburn, it is actually Roker and Seaburn beaches that are the joint highest placed contender from the region in the current Trip Advisor rundown of the UK’s best beaches.

South Shields’ Sandhaven beach has been ‘likened’ to Ibiza, thanks to its atmosphere on sun-drenched summer days, with it also being named best in the UK in 2022; while Bamburgh has been named the UK’s best seaside town four years in a row by consumer guide Which? and, just last month was on a list of the UK’s best winter walks. An, just this week Bamburgh came out on top in the battle of the Northumberland beaches, taking number 1 spot ahead of the likes of Druridge Bay and Embleton beach.

However, it’s Wearside that has bragging rights at the moment, as far as Trip Advisor ratings are concerned. Earlier this week, the famous review site named its top 25 beaches in the world and, while there was no North East representation on that list, when it comes to the UK, Roker and Seaburn is in the top 30, in 30th position.

The fact that it they it is the only North East beaches in the higher end of the rankings is frankly criminal, but it is up there thanks to earning plenty of five star reviews, including one from a visitor who branded it ‘a mackem paradise’ as they added: “A totally stunning stretch of coastline, both the Roker and Seaburn beaches are beautiful in their own unique ways. Always worth a visit no matter the season.”

Also giving it 5/5, another reviewer enthused: “What a beautiful coastline. The improvements made to this area recently have been excellent. The natural golden sand beaches are a gem with wide swathes of space at low tide” as a third, in agreement, posted: “This is the most beautiful bit of coastline the east coast has to offer with plenty to do, eat and drink as well as the dolphins spotting from the end of the pier.”
