Experts at Boots have revealed the top trends that beauty lovers have been snapping up in 2024 – perfect for any Christmas shoppers in need of some last-minute inspiration.
The high street giant has looked at sales from across the year to uncover the most in-demand products, with most-wanted purchases ranging from hyaluronic acid in skincare to statement blush in makeup. One of the biggest new trends is so-called skin superfoods, with demand particularly increasing for Korean skincare products known for their cutting-edge techniques.
Boots introduced 10 new Korean beauty brands to its shelves in 2024, with the bestselling choice among shoppers being Beauty of Joseon – the number one favourite was the brand’s Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics, currently reduced from £15.50 down to £12.40, which promises to calm and protect the skin with a non-greasy formula that has earned an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars from Boots shoppers.
More Korean skincare favourites at Boots include the Anua Niacinamide 10% and TXA 4% Serum, reuced from £22 to £17.60, which is designed to target dull skin and currently takes the top spot in K beauty on the retailer’s website. And shoppers are also snapping up the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, priced at £21, described as an “ultra-nourishing” treatment that promises to leave you with “soft, luscious lips”.
When it comes to makeup must-haves, blush has made a big comeback this year, with searches increasing 155% on the Boots website in 2024. “From Sabrina Carpenter’s iconic rosy cheeks to the natural flush of the ‘boyfriend blush’ and the summer-inspired ‘sunset blush’, the blusher possibilities were endless in 2024,” the experts said.
For those still on the lookout for Christmas gifts for beauty lovers, stocking fillers including blush are top of the bestseller list right now, with the number one choice being the Benefit Piping Hot Beauty Mini Mascara & Blush Duo for £20 – although this set is currently cheaper at Debenhams for £15 or at LookFantastic for £16.
In second place when it comes to blush bestsellers is the Sculpted by Aimee Cheek Chic Christmas Cracker, now half price at £7.50 down from £15, followed in third place by the exclusive Made by Mitchell Comet Case Highlight Blush Palette and Vanity Bag, which has also seen its price slashed from £55 down to £20.
More blush favourites include the viral sensation Clinique Pop Black Honey Lip & Cheek Oil, priced at £23.50, and fellow social media icon Benefit Benetint Rose-Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain, priced at £21.50.
In other beauty trends, 2024 saw a renewed focus on hydration in skincare, with the emergence of viral trends like ‘skin flooding’ taking centre stage, the experts said. Hyaluronic Acid, described as a “holy grail” ingredient for hydration, was the most searched skincare ingredient on the Boots website this year, with The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (£8.80) among the retailer’s top-selling premium skincare products.
Boots also brought one of the biggest skincare brands of the year, Bubble, to over 380 stores across the UK in 2024, with one Bubble product selling every single minute when it launched. The viral brand’s Slam Dunk Hydrating Cream Moisturiser (£16) was the best-selling product from the brand.
In addition, shoppers were actively looking for products to support skin’s natural self-repair, with the No7 Future Renew Day Cream SPF40 (£34.95) cementing its place as the beloved brand’s bestselling product of the year. The day cream forms part of the Future Renew range which is powered by No7’s super peptide blend, including a serum which is clinically proven to reverse visible signs of skin damage.
Grace Vernon, Head of Global Trends & Cultural Insights at Boots & No7 Beauty Company, said: “The lines between beauty and wellness certainly blurred this year, as we saw more product trends that spanned holistically across skincare, haircare, wellness and health. From supplements to skincare, shoppers are more conscious than ever with their purchases as consumers increasingly recognised that beauty is more than skin deep.
“With 175 years of expertise behind us, Boots is uniquely placed to deliver on this trend. As we look to the year ahead, we are continuing to pack our shelves with exciting new products and brands, allowing us to stay ahead of the curve, cater to evolving consumer demands, and offer a diverse and dynamic selection of beauty and wellness.”
