Cam Details Why Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana Album Never Dropped, Claims Universal Wanted 95 Percent

Cam’ron is giving fans some insight into the behind-the-scenes discussions that he says ultimately led to a would-be Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana joint project not seeing the light of day.

During a recent Talk With Flee entry, Cam, during a larger discussion about rumors of the “most ridiculous” variety, made his conversational way to the project, noting that he often gets the blame.

“N***as was like, ‘Yo, Juelz and Lil Wayne was supposed to do an album one time,’” Cam said. “And n***as was like, ‘Cam don’t want the Lil Wayne and Juelz project to come out. I don’t know why he’s stopping it.’ I aint’ gon front, this was when we all wasn’t on the same page.”

Still, as Cam further explained, the fault for the tentatively titled I Can’t Feel My Face never officially dropping doesn’t actually lie with him.

“It didn’t happen and they was like ‘Cam don’t want the project to come out,’ and that’s not what happened,” Cam said, as seen starting around the 33-minute mark in the video below. According to Cam, Weezy, though indeed a “star” at the time, hadn’t yet hit superstar status. Meanwhile, Universal was arguing that Wayne still owed them an album, thus complicating the would-be Juelz rollout.

“So Juelz and Wayne had a project, they did,” Cam explained. “Def Jam is under Universal, which Lil Wayne was signed to. So when they wanted to put this project out, Universal told Def Jam, ‘Well, Lil Wayne still didn’t give us his album yet, so if y’all wanna put this project out we’re taking 95 percent. And Def Jam, y’all can take five percent.’”

At the time, Cam added, he had a joint venture deal with Def Jam, which he says meant that such a release should result in him and Juelz getting two and a half percent while Def Jam got the same. Def Jam, he noted, declined to “okay” this arrangement for the project, leading to Cam being blamed.

“Listen, why would I wanna stop making money?” He asked. “My whole thing was to make Juelz a star, to make Juelz rich. However it played out toward the end, it played out toward the end.”

In 2008, notably amid a variety of major shufflings in the larger Diplomats world, Miss Info reported that Cam had sold Juelz’s contract to Def Jam, with a $2 million figure claimed at the time.

More recently in the Dipsetiverse, focus has returned to a back-and-forth between Cam and Jim Jones. Juelz himself recently spoke out about the feud, saying he’s “definitely not” happy about the situation.

“Nobody wins when the family feuds, no matter what we’re going through behind the scenes,” he cautioned in a The Art of Dialogue conversation in January.
