Consett crash sees road closed for three hours as man cut from car and taken to hospital

A man has been cut from his car and taken to hospital after a crash in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to Woodside Bank in Consett shortly after 1.30pm. The driver of a blue Citroen was cut from the vehicle and taken to University Hospital of North Durham.

The A691 remained closed for around three hours, with diversion in place for traffic between Leadgate and Lanchester. It reopened after around three hours, at 4.30pm.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at Woodside Bank, Iveston, Consett, just after 1.30pm today.

“Emergency services including fire and ambulance also attended and the driver of a blue Citroen was cut from his vehicle and taken to the University Hospital of North Durham. It is not thought anyone else was injured and the road was reopened at 4.30pm.”

A statement from the North East Ambulance Service read: “We received a call at 1.29pm on Friday 13 December to reports of a road traffic incident on the A691 in Consett.

“We dispatched an ambulance crew, two clinical team leaders, two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and received support from a crew from our patient transport service. One patient was transported to UHND for further treatment.”
