One of Coronation Street’s legendary characters is set for a frightening hospital dash amid the mystery surrounding missing Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
Recently, Roy Cropper (David Neilson) has found himself in hot water, being arrested and charged as the prime suspect in the alleged murder of missing teen Lauren. Fans will remember that troubled Lauren suddenly disappeared from the cobbles earlier this year, leaving her friend Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) worried after discovering her flat unlocked, blood on the floor and Lauren nowhere in sight.
Viewers never witnessed Lauren’s departure and it appears she didn’t inform anyone close to her about her plans to leave Weatherfield, except for Roy.
Bobby reported Lauren as missing to the police, which put kind-hearted Roy under suspicion, particularly after he was spotted innocently tidying up Lauren’s flat – an act some interpreted as evidence of his guilt.
Online detectives have since made his life difficult with a flood of online abuse. In future episodes, viewers will be anxious for Roy when he collapses in his prison cell due to the stress of recent events.
Spoilers for next week reveal that Roy experiences another flashback of Lauren approaching the cafe counter with Max Turner (Paddy Bever), but he can’t decipher what’s significant about their conversation. Roy’s train of thought is abruptly interrupted when a prison officer knocks on the door, leaving the cafe owner frustrated.
However, things take a shocking turn when Roy’s niece, Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) appears in the visiting room and informs a prison officer that she’s waiting for her uncle. It isn’t long before the officer discovers Roy collapsed on his cell floor.
Later in the week, Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) pays a visit to a desolate Roy in hospital, where he confesses that he’s trying to recall a conversation he overheard between Max and Lauren before her disappearance, believing it to be significant. A supportive Mary encourages Roy not to lose hope, assuring him that it will eventually come back to him.
By week’s end, it seems that Roy recalls one crucial detail as he reaches out to solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), sharing a theory about Lauren’s necklace and suggesting that if they can trace its origin, they might be able to track down her mystery boyfriend, who could potentially provide answers about her whereabouts.
Will they find Lauren’s enigmatic boyfriend and could they offer vital clues about her disappearance?
