The much-loved ITV show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! made its grand return on Sunday, with a fresh batch of celebs braving the jungle. Among them is Coronation Street’s very own Alan Halsall.
In the first episode, the soap star paired up with Tulisa Contostavlos and they triumphed in becoming the camp leaders. However, his on-screen mum, Claire Sweeney, reckons we’ve yet to see the best of Alan.
On Friday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Claire gushed about her on-screen son’s performance in the jungle so far.
She said: “Isn’t he wonderful? I know Maureen Lipman came on here and she said he’ll start off quietly just watch and observe and then he’ll come forward.
“That’s what he’ll do, he’s brilliant Alan, he’s such a funny guy. He’s smart, he’s sensitive, he’s a really brilliant personality.”
Kate Garraway was intrigued to know if ITV viewers have seen the real Alan yet as Paul Brand pointed out that the soap star has been rather quiet.
Claire responded: “In the first episode he wasn’t quiet because he had the big trial with Tulisa and he really shone in that didn’t he? He’s sitting back at the moment. I think he will, he needs more airtime.”
In Thursday’s episode of the ITV show, the campmates were reprimanded for smuggling in contraband, reports the Express.
Dean McCullough didn’t exactly keep it a secret when he told his fellow campmates he had teabags for everyone to enjoy.
The I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! campmates were left with a mere five cupcakes to share instead of the usual 10 as punishment for having contraband items.
Dean headed off to the Bush Telegraph, while Tulisa admitted she had something she shouldn’t – salt given to her by fellow camper Melvin Odoom to season their meals.
Alan’s disappointment that Tulisa hadn’t used the seasoning before surrendering it to ITV didn’t escape the notice of viewers.
One fan quipped: “Alan realising he could have had salty beans and rice last night.”
Another chimed in: “Alan realising they could’ve had seasoned rice and beans.”
A third posted: “Alan when he realised they had seasoning the whole time.”
While another tweeted: “Alan why didn’t you use the flavourings.”
Since the show began, Alan’s odds of being crowned King of the Jungle have improved, according to bookies William Hill.
William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, revealed: “Danny Jones was already a firm favourite to win this year’s edition of I’m A Celebrity and the McFly singer has been smashed in the betting since the beginning of the show, shortening into even-money from 15/8 yesterday.
“Jones is now well clear of GK Barry at 5/1, with Maura Higgins closing in on her in the market at 8/1 from 10/1. Alan Halsall is the big negative in the market, after drifting to 14/1 from 8/1.”
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! airs weeknights on ITV from 9pm.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
