Coronation Street star says ‘I’m glad ITV have got no money’ in shock outburst

Over the weekend, Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews left fans puzzled with a surprising jibe at ITV on social media. During a Q&A session, she expressed her strong dislike for one aspect of filming.

The actress, known for her role as Jenny Connor since 1986 and returning full-time in 2015, was asked by a fan, “Where would you like to film on location?” Sally revealed that location shoots are now scarce, replying: “We don’t do on location … right … ok so the whole ‘Corrie doesn’t do location any more.'”. However, this worked out particularly well for Sally, who then confessed her relief, saying: “Thankfully because I fricking hate being on location – location is s**t – I hate it.”

Sally didn’t stop there, adding cheekily: “So I’m glad ITV have got no money – am I allowed to say that? Well I have said it.” OK! have contacted ITV for comment. Sally’s unexpected remarks about her employer sparked concern among viewers, especially after fears earlier this year that her character might have been cut from the show following a mysterious absence.

Soap devotees were on edge earlier this year when Sally took to her socials, longing for “happier times” amidst a lot of plot lines needing her presence on the set. Chatting with her followers then, Sally shared: “I chose to get on an airplane because I’m particularly quiet at work I’ve got like a million years off, so I chose to go on an aeroplane and I chose to remember happier times”, reports the Mirror.

The star then divulged that she had taken trips to Cyprus twice within five weeks and was planning another getaway to simply “do nowt.” She hinted at her uncertain future, adding: “And at some point I might get a job and someone might employ me, potentially.”

When probed if new Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks had chopped her role, Sally Ann gave a noncommittal noise and wouldn’t spill more. “Have you left the street? Hmm. Hang on, next question,” she teased fans. “You’re not going to be seeing Jenny for quite a long while. So that’s that.”

Sally’s character Jenny has become a Coronation Street icon during her over 15-year run, lately involved in major plots such as duping Carla Connor out of a wad of cash to nab the Rovers Return, and her romance with the infamous killer Stephen Reid before his grim end by Peter Barlow’s hands. However, since the conclusion of these storylines, Jenny’s character has taken a backseat, appearing only briefly in supporting roles to characters like Daisy Midgeley and Kit Green.
