County Durham attacker caged for 15 years after stabbing man 10 times in ‘ferocious assault’

A County Durham attacker who stabbed a man 10 times has been caged for the “ferocious assault”.

Kenneth Walton was found guilty of wounding with intent following a trial last month and has now been jailed for 15 years. Police were called shortly before 11pm on Saturday, June 22 to an address in Stanley where a man had sustained serious injuries to his head, face, chest and neck.

The victim was rushed to hospital and required lengthy treatment. Walton, of Ferryhill, was arrested in the early hours of the following day and was later charged.

At Teesside Crown Court this week the 30-year-old was handed a lengthy prison sentence for what the judge described as a “ferocious assault”. Detective Constable Wright, of Durham Constabulary, said: “This was a vicious attack by Walton who has left his victim with scars, both mentally and physically, for life.

“We will always take robust action against those who choose to carry knives and use them to harm others. The devastating and lasting impact of knife crime on individuals, families, and communities cannot be overstated.”

If you see someone carrying a knife or have concerns that someone you know carries one, please report it by contacting police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, you can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
