County Durham collision brings down lines as properties affected by power cuts

A single vehicle collision in County Durham has brought down power lines and closed a road.

Emergency services were called to North Road East in Wingate on Sunday morning where a car had collided with a lamppost.

No one is thought to have been injured in the collision, but electric cables were brought down. Peterlee Police advised drivers to find an alternative route as Northern Powergrid work to restore power to affected properties in the area.

Northern Powergrid’s live map of power cuts showed nine properties around North Road East were affected by power cuts shortly after 5.30am on Sunday morning.

According to the site, power is expected to be restored to those properties by around 3pm this afternoon.
