David Coote sacked by Premier League after Jurgen Klopp video and white powder clip

Premier League referee David Coote has been fired by the PGMOL following a string of controversies surrounding his behaviour.

A statement announced: “Following the conclusion of a thorough investigation into David Coote’s conduct, his employment with PGMOL has been terminated today with immediate effect. David Coote’s actions were found to be in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable.

“Supporting David Coote continues to be important to us and we remain committed to his welfare. David Coote has a right to appeal the decision to terminate his employment.”

The 42 year old was initially suspended by the PGMOL in November after an old video clip surfaced on social media, showing him using derogatory language to describe former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Coote was then embroiled in further controversy when another clip allegedly showed him snorting a white powder.

Additionally, it was revealed that he was under investigation by The Football Association for allegedly discussing issuing a yellow card prior to refereeing a 2019 Championship match between Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion. While Coote has not commented on the Klopp or white powder incidents, he has denied the allegations related to the betting probe.

He acknowledges that a “conversation” occurred but denies any misconduct. He stated: “I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations. Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life they have never affected my decision-making on the field,” reports the Mirror.

“I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability.”
