Any parents with little Bluey fans at home, get ready to give them news that will make their day: a movie is officially in the works.
Disney has confirmed today that Bluey: The Movie is coming, which will continue the adventures of the loveable blue dog and her family. Written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm and starring the same voice cast as the hit TV show, the film will be released in cinemas worldwide before being available to stream on Disney+.
But there’s just one catch: fans have quite a while to wait, as the film won’t be out until 2027. Nonetheless, when the big news was announced on social media on Tuesday afternoon it quickly racked up tens of thousands of excited comments from fans of all ages.
“I’m so excited!!!!! I’m sure my son is too,” one mum quipped, while many others quoted Bluey’s iconic line: “For real life?!”
“What wonderful news to wake up to!” someone else said in response to Disney’s Instagram post announcing the news, and another fan joked: “Four-year-olds everywhere just collapsed.”
Joe Brumm, creator of Bluey, said: “I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie.
“I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen.”
Available in over 140 countries, Bluey is 2024’s most-watched series globally on Disney+, and is also the number one kids’ show on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK. Episodes of Bluey are currently available to watch in the UK on the CBeebies channel, as well as via BBC iPlayer and on Disney+.
