Eddie Howe sends strong Alexander Isak transfer message after Newcastle goal

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has sent another strong transfer message to Alexander Isak‘s potential suitors after the striker was on the scoresheet once again in the Premier League meeting with Aston Villa.

The Magpies secured a comfortable 3-0 win at St James’ Park on Boxing Day against 10 men. The hosts initially took the lead after two minutes courtesy of Anthony Gordon before Jhon Duran was sent off for Villa following an apparent stamp on Fabian Schar.

Isak then scored the second after the break and Joelinton added a third in stoppage time. The victory takes Newcastle up to fifth in the Premier League standings, four points behind Arsenal in fourth, who are in action against Ipswich Town on Friday night.

Speaking after the game, Howe was full of praise for the striker, who is regularly linked with Newcastle’s Premier League rivals. Isak is under contract until 2028, having signed a six-year deal upon his arrival from Real Sociedad in 2022, but that hasn’t prevented interest in the Sweden international from intensifying.

“I love Alexander Isak, he has unbelievable quality,” the manager said post-match. “He’s the right age, has the right athletic profile, I signed him and love him. I wouldn’t swap him for anyone.”

This isn’t the first time Howe has sent a warning to rivals that Isak is not for sale. The manager is regularly asked about the forward’s future, and has been steadfast in his insistence they are planning for the future with Isak in the team.

“There’s no part of me or anyone at Newcastle that wants to let Alex go,” Howe said earlier this week. “He’s very much part of our long-term plans. Personally, I don’t see that being an issue.”
