Emmerdale Dylan star’s life off-screen and where you’ve seen him before

Emmerdale actor Fred Kettle has returned to the show as Dylan, a character he first portrayed in a special flashback episode last month. Dylan, a homeless teenager, befriended April Windsor (played by Amelia Flanagan) after she ran away from home and ensured her safety during a difficult time.

April, who was pregnant and living on the streets, tragically lost her baby and was hospitalised, losing touch with Dylan in the process. Since returning to the village, she has struggled to adjust to family life and is now trying to reconnect with Dylan.

In a recent episode, April invited Dylan to her home, causing concern for Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and her father, Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock). Marlon agreed to let Dylan stay for one night, but upcoming episodes will see the teenager fighting for his life after a drug overdose.

Fred Kettle, the 18-year-old actor playing Dylan, is also a student at CAPA College in Wakefield, Yorkshire. The college publicly congratulated him on his Emmerdale role, posting on Instagram: “Tonight, a special episode of @emmerdale airs on @itv, featuring CAPA College student Fred Kettle in a major role.

“The episode will recount the heartbreaking story of April and her life on the streets, which sees Fred take on the role of ‘Dylan’ in this intense storyline. Huge congratulations, Fred, we can’t wait to watch,” reports Leeds Live.

Fred has also had the opportunity to share the screen with renowned actress Maxine Peake, known for her Dinner Ladies and Shameless roles, in the film Poppy Day.

Last year, Fred took to Instagram to express his excitement about working alongside Maxine, writing: “Poppy Day – absolutely loved this project so grateful to play an amazing character alongside @betteblavatsky. Best experience on set everyone was amazing. Can’t wait to see the final product! @justin104films.”

In addition to his work on Poppy Day, Fred appeared in the 2024 short film Loser Like Larkin, where he played a schoolboy, and also had a role in the second series of the BBC drama Sherwood.

He continued, “Loved every second of filming on this project. The cast and crew have been incredible to work with. Thank you to Faye and Ezra. Forever grateful.”

Emmerdale viewers are now calling for Dylan to become a regular character on the show. One fan commented on Instagram, “Please let him stay in Emmerdale, I think he would be a great support to April.”

Another fan added, “I hope we get to see more of you! Great actor! Let’s get you off those streets and into the dales village.”

A third fan chimed in, “I hope Emmerdale sign you up…you were fab in this episode x.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
