Emmerdale fans are convinced that the soap has hinted at a devastating exit for long-running character Cain Dingle. Cain, played by Jeff Hordley, has been a mainstay on the show for over two decades since his first appearance in 2000.
Known for his bad boy charm and tumultuous love life, Cain has had viewers hooked with his dramatic storylines. His romantic conquests have been anything but normal – a relationship with his cousin Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) was particularly scandalous – and an affair turned serious relationship with Moira (Natalie J. Robb).
Life in the Dales has been anything but quiet for Cain, particularly in the last year. He’s had to cope with the loss of his father Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) and his wife Moira’s brain tumour diagnosis. Cain shocked fans when he slept with his brother Caleb’s (William Ash) wife Ruby (Beth Cordingly), leaving them both filled with regret.

This week, Cain discovered the chilling truth about Ruby’s abusive father Anthony’s (Nicholas Day) disappearance: Ruby killed him, implicating several other Dingle family members in the process.
But things look to take a turn for the worse for Cain, according to recent fan theories, reports Leeds Live.
Earlier this year, the soap aired several flash-forwards, one of which showed an unidentified hand trapped under a frozen lake following a harrowing car plunge into icy waters that left several beloved characters’ lives at stake. Speculation has reached fever pitch about who it might be, with fans taking to social media with their theories.

Many have connected the dots thanks to the peek of a wedding ring and a bracelet seen on the submerged hand, with many recalling that Cain recently received a bracelet from Frankie.
“I’m guessing it will be Cain under the Ice. We know it’s a male with a wedding ring and they are wearing a bracelet. Frankie gave Cain a bracelet that she made,” speculated one devoted viewer on an Emmerdale fan page on Facebook.
Many are on board with the theory, with another weighing in: “Cain wears a silvery metal coloured ring… the hand under the ice was a similar colour and width also the shape of the fingers on the hand looks very much like Cain’s unfortunately”.
It’s safe to say, viewers are dismayed: “You could be onto something but I really don’t want him to die!”, but only time will tell what’s in store for Cain.
