Emmerdale’s April Windsor ‘confirms’ identity of her baby’s father in devastating storyline

Emmerdale spoilers ahead for Thursday, 6 February episode available to watch now on ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV.

In heart-wrenching episodes from Emmerdale this week, fans discovered the tragic truth about April Windsor’s disappearance. In a series of sombre flashbacks, viewers were devastated to learn that April experienced a stillbirth alone in a gym bathroom while being homeless.

In Thursdays episode, which has been available on ITVX since 7am, Marlon Dingle, April’s distraught father, pressed her for answers about the baby’s father, asking, “Was he part of the reason you left? Were the two of you still in contact? Does he know?” However, April dismisses his enquiries with a simple, “He was just a random lad that I met at a party – I didn’t even know his name, dad.”

The episode also saw a poignant interaction between father and daughter as April revealed the multiple reasons she kept her pregnancy secret, pointing out her dad’s own hidden truths. “I wanted to tell you, I almost did,” she confessed.

“But then, I found out that you’d always known how my mum really died. Lied to me about it my whole life. So then I figured, if you could keep secrets then so could I.”

April delved further into the motivations for her departure, citing her feeling neglected except when misbehaving, the near breakup of Marlon and Rhona, and the pressure of always having to be strong, particularly after her father’s stroke, reports the Mirror.

The father of Amelia Flanagan, who plays April, couldn’t hide his pride over her incredible performance in the soap’s devastating storyline. He took to X, formerly Twitter, to express his admiration for his 16 year old daughter, saying: “Couldn’t be prouder of Amelia, she worked so hard on this.”

He also recalled the moment she landed the role 11 years ago, adding: “11 years ago when our little 5 year old got the job we could never have dreamed that one day she’d be trusted with her own ep. Proudest dad ever right now!”

As it turns out, talent runs in the family, as Amelia’s siblings, Bella and Will, also star in popular soaps. Bella plays Hope Stape in Coronation Street, while Will portrays Joseph Brown in the same Manchester-based soap. Chris’ social media bio proudly declares: “Proud dad of three. Amelia plays April in Emmerdale, Bella plays Hope Stape and Will plays Joseph Brown in Corrie.”
