Now when it comes to places to go for a slap up meal, a treehouse probably isn’t a place that immediately springs to mind, but there is a location just 45 minutes drive from Newcastle that offers diners a stunning woodland setting that has now come in for some national recognition.
Just 34 miles from Newcastle city centre you’ll find Alnwick Treehouse and, as well as being a sought after place to go for people in Northumberland and the larger North East, the restaurant has now found itself on a list of cool places to eat and drink for the whole of the UK, compiled by experts at Atlas Obscura, who pride themselves on offering a ‘definitive guide’ to the world’s ‘hidden wonders.’
The Treehouse clearly made a huge impression on the reviewer, who writes: ‘The 6,000-square-foot complex is a celebration of wood: pine, cedar, and redwood, all carefully intertwined to make a theatre of natural elements suspended in the tree-line of the ancient forest. Growing trees literally spew forth from the floors while in the wintertime, a cozy fireplace lazily crackles. Need you guess what the tables and chairs are made from?”
The review also heaps praise on the Treehouse’s menu, which is packed full of fine North East produce and is commended for its ’emphasis on seasonality and locality.’ Dishes among the Treehouse Restaurant’s current a la carte offerings including roast chicken breast with haggis pan haggerty, venison loin, herb roasted salmon and sweet potato and chickpea tagine, with its tempting dessert line-up featuring the likes of The Alnwick Garden Cherry Blossom Tree, Baileys and white chocolate cheesecake and that old classic, the sticky toffee pudding.
The Alnwick Treehouse has a 4 star rating on Trip Advisor, with one reviewer enthusing: ‘Everything about our visit was wonderful! The treehouse setting was breathtaking, and the service was excellent’ and another describing it as a ‘lovely treat in the trees.’
