The Guardian gave the series four stars, hailing it as a “slick, smart conspiracy thriller gets better and better” as the plot progresses. Their review highlights: “As well as being smartly plotted and expertly paced, The Madness has a subtle but great line in showing how Muncie must navigate the traditional tropes as a Black man (police scepticism, approaching strangers for information, or simply being out and about in certain neighbourhoods).”, reports the Mirror.
“All the constraints an Everyman at the centre of a conspiracy thriller normally operates under are given extra, inescapable torque and the tension builds accordingly.” FandomWire was full of praise for The Madness, calling it an “exquisite cat and mouse thriller” in their review. They went on to describe the plot dynamics as a “strong political, psychological chess match worthy of a binge.”

They concluded by saying, “As a whole, however, The Madness offers plenty of thrills, anchored by a believable, twisty conspiracy with real stakes.” The Telegraph also enjoyed the series, awarding it four stars and commenting: “Netflix’s paranoid drama covers familiar hot-button issues, but is instantly addictive.”
