A series of different cruise ships will dock at the Port of Tyne this year, taking North East passengers to destinations such as Norway, Denmark and Iceland.
There are 12 different ships planned to dock between March and October, some of which will return to the region several times throughout the year. More than half a million passengers pass through the terminal annually, which is both a starting and calling point for a range of ships from companies including Fred Olsen, Holland America Line, AIDA and Seabourn.
The most regular visitor is Fred Olsen’s Borealis, which kicks off its year next month with a Northern Lights cruise stopping in Tromsø, Molde and Alesund. This year is expected to be the perfect opportunity to see the Northern Lights, with the Aurora at its maximum 11-year cycle peak.
Another regular visitor is Germany’s AIDAsol, which has a British Isles cruise on its itinerary. Other visitors include “the most luxurious cruise liner in the world” the Regent Seven Seas, which has two cruise liners docking in July and September respectively.
