Hairy Biker Si King’s comfort food restaurant ‘PROPA!’ launches at Sunderland Sheepfolds

Hairy Biker Si King has launched his comfort food restaurant in Sunderland.

The popular TV cook has opened PROPA!, his brand new and first ‘grab and go’ restaurant, in Sheepfolds Stables at Riverside Sunderland. The venture promises to serve up the very best of British comfort food with a gourmet twist.

The new venture offers a vast menu that reflects and promotes the food culture of the North East. PROPA!’s location is only a few minutes’ walk away from Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light, and the restaurant will also deliver on the strong footballing culture and tradition of having a pie and pint before the match.

Speaking on Tuesday, Si said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to launch PROPA! It’s a great way to take our customers back to the tastes and smells that they grew up with and that is part of our North East identity. A food culture to be celebrated and embraced.

“We’re using only the very best of ingredients that the region has to offer, all sourced from producers that the team knows and this ethos underpins everything that we want to achieve with the food that we produce. We can’t wait to welcome you all.”

According to recent research by Sunderland Business Improvement District, the city’s food and drink sector is becoming one of the fastest growing industries and a major contributor to the local economy. The café, bar and restaurant scene now accounts for 33% of all retail sales – the biggest contribution to the city’s economy.

It is hoped PROPA! will add to this and become an alternative, high quality yet affordable choice for customers.

PROPA! is the latest venture to open at Sheepfolds Stables, an impressive £4m regeneration and restoration project that has transformed former railway stables buildings dating back to 1884 into a highly desirable and popular destination for independent food and drink operators. It is located to the left of the main courtyard area and open 7 days a week from 10am -10pm, Monday to Wednesday, 10am –10:30pm, Thursday and 9am – late Saturday and Sunday.
