Hairy Bikers star Si King confirms new role as he goes ‘solo’ after co-star Dave Myers’ death

Hairy Bikers’ star Si King has confirmed his new TV role following the loss of his beloved co-star, Dave Myers. The chef duo were best known for their appearance on their hit BBC show, The Hairy Bikers, as they toured across the country to taste the various delicacies each location had to offer.

Following the tragic loss of Dave in February this year following a battle with cancer, Si opened up on Good Morning Britain with hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley about his new solo journey ahead of his BBC documentary You’ll Never Ride Alone, which commemorates his late co-star. During the conversation, Susanna touched on Si’s fresh start and said: “Look, it must be so hard for you because you and Dave were a couple weren’t you effectively? You’re an item on television. Best, best, best mates and the best of male friendship as well.”

She also mentioned his upcoming role and added: “It is hard I know to move on, but you are striking out on your own now and in fact, you have a new role don’t you? in ITV day time.” Si, confirming his next step, replied by expressing his excitement about his new gig and mistakenly referred to This Morning as Good Morning, reports the Mirror.

Corrected by Susanna, he humorously retorted: “Did I call it Good Morning? Well, that’s a good start isn’t it?” Richard chimed in with a light-hearted offer for him to guest cook on GMB instead. It was then confirmed that Si will make his debut as a resident chef on This Morning starting in January, appearing once a month, although he’s already familiar with their kitchen from previous visits.

It looks like he’s now a regular on the scene, joining culinary stars John Torode, Phil Vickery, and Clodagh McKenna. Si recently graced ITV’s This Morning, whipping up a scrumptious beef curry hotpot for hosts Dermot O’Leary and Cat Deeley.

In the midst of cooking, Si opened up about the upcoming BBC documentary that includes footage of an emotional tribute ride by 46,000 motorcycles in honour of his friend Dave. Reflecting on the overwhelming experience, Si shared: “You know moments in your life when you can’t find the words to describe; there are no superlatives to describe what happened that day..”

He continued, “It was community, it was love, it was respect, it was fellowship and a massive, massive outpouring of love for my best mate Dave, you know, it was wonderful.” Set to air on 23 December, the documentary will also highlight significant moments from Dave and Si’s 25 years on TV.

Si remarked: “It was a very special show to pull together. Full of nostalgia, laughs and celebration of my best friend and his life.” Catherine Catton, Head of Commissioning, Factual Entertainment and Events, chimed in with praise and said: “Dave and Si hold a very special place in the Nation’s heart, and this emotional film pays tribute to an extraordinary friendship.”
