Helen Skelton celebrates son continuing her ‘Blue Peter legacy’ in adorable snap

BBC star Helen Skelton was over the moon as she spotted her second eldest child, Louis, seven, completely engrossed in Blue Peter. The Countryfile presenter, 41, who helmed the iconic children’s programme from 2008 to 2013, took to Instagram to share two adorable Stories of her little one tuned into the show at their home.

In one sweet photo, Louis is seen at their spacious dining table, busy with what looks like Christmas cards, while Blue Peter plays on the TV across from him. “Life made… watching Blue Peter,” Helen captioned the heartwarming scene. She followed up with a cute clip showing Louis abandoning his card writing to stand next to the TV, captivated by the episode. “Let me tell you about this one time son… Blue Peter legacy going strong…” she wrote, giving a shout out to Blue Peter icons Anthea Turner and Gethin Jones.

Along with Louis, Helen is mum to Ernie, nine, and baby Elsie, born in December 2021, whom she shares with her former England rugby league star husband Richie Myler. Following their split in 2022 after eight years together, Helen has set up a stunning new home for herself and her brood in Cumbria, where she originally hails from.

She opened up about the trials and tribulations of single parenthood, with a little humour thrown in for good measure. Speaking to the Mirror, Helen quipped: “I always say it’s not a kid that needs a nanny, I need a nanny – to do all the boring stuff,” reports the Mirror.

The star still admitted: “I’m very lucky… most of my friends work way more, in offices or schools or hospitals. They take the mick because I don’t work half as much as they do. TV work is feast or famine, so you have a crazy few weeks, then you have a really quiet month.”

While Helen’s no stranger to challenges and adventures, she added: “Having kids is the ultimate ironman. It’s incredible, I think women need to hear that. I’ve done marathons, I’ve done ultra marathons, but labour is harder.”

Back in September, it was revealed that had Richie welcomed his second child with his new partner Stephanie Thirkill. Stephanie and Richie welcomed their daughter, Olivia, into the world last year and are now proud parents of son, Freddie, who was born In July, according to reports.

Helen was married to Hull FC’s director of rugby for eight years, before revealing on Instagram that Richie had “left the family home” four months after the birth of their youngest child, Elsie. He quickly moved on with Stephanie and had to adjust to the challenges of co-parenting with Helen.

She said: “You appreciate the other in this situation. I don’t think he’ll ever say again, ‘What do you do with the kids all day?’ Sometimes he would get in from work and he’d be that husband that would look at the kitchen and say, ‘How is this still a mess when she’s been off all day? ‘ Now he’s done it he’s like, ‘How does she stay sane?'”

In her autobiography, In My Stride, Helen wrote about her feelings upon discovering Richie had moved on with Stephanie. “I was in shock. I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn’t see it coming and it sounds like a cliché, but that was me.”
