Si King is set to open a new attraction in a Northumberland Coastal village.
Bamburgh is a favourite destination for holidaymakers and North East day-trippers alike, and has been named the nation’s favourite seaside spot for four years in a row. The first phase of its new café, the Bamburgh Walled Garden, opened in January.
The second phase, a garden, sensory garden, and playground has already had a soft launch but will be officially launched on April 11 by none other than Hairy Biker Si King.
Claire Watson-Armstrong, of Bamburgh Castle Estate, told ChronicleLive: “We couldn’t think of anyone better to open it than Si, who has been a real supporter of Bamburgh for years. He’s had a real connection since he was a bairn.”
Si recently opened his first “grab and go” restaurant, PROPA!, at Sheepfolds Stables in Sunderland. Claire hasn’t ruled out getting some of his creations on the menu at the Walled Garden.
She continued: “One of the thing’s were championing is local produce and local recipes, and he’s such a supporter of that, it’s his ethos. It’s something we’d like to do in the future alongside our brilliant chef Andrew Rowley.”
Owned by the Bamburgh Castle Estate, the Walled Garden will be open all year round. Estate bosses say that the venture has created 45 hospitality and retail jobs, as well as a caretaker and a gardener.
The Walled Garden will have the village’s first Changing Places Toilet, which will be available for anyone to use, not just café customers.
Francis Watson-Armstrong, Bamburgh Castle Estate owner, said: “One of our main objectives was ensuring the whole space would be fully accessible to everyone. The Walled Garden will be part of the community here in Bamburgh and contribute towards making our village an accessible and welcoming destination for local people and visitors to enjoy.”
