One man will tower above all others as Newcastle United line up on the Wembley turf for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. Magpies defender Dan Burn will be the tallest man on the pitch as the two sides go head to head at the famous stadium.
For the Blyth-born defender, pulling on the colours of his hometown club is something of a dream come true, with the 32-year-old hoping to go one better than in 2023, when Newcastle lost 2-0 to Manchester United. Burn joined the club from Brighton January 2022, and has helped Eddie Howe’s side qualify for the Champions League, scored against Paris Saint-Germain in the competition, and has now played a key role in guiding United to two Wembley finals.
Always one for playing with his heart on his sleeve, Burn is a hugely popular member of the Newcastle squad, and certainly stands out from the crowd given his height. He is relishing the chance to be part of the first United side to lift a domestic trophy since 1955, saying: “I couldn’t really put into words what it would mean to be part of the team that actually won something.
“I’ve been asked the question when I’ve spoken to the lads about it before. I just think the team that finally gets it over the line will become absolute legends, and rightly so. I feel as though, now, we have a squad where we should be doing this regularly. It would be a real shame and a massive disappointment if this group of lads couldn’t be the ones that finally ended it.”
How tall is Dan Burn?
According to the Premier League website, the Newcastle defender is 198cms tall, which is 6ft 7ins.
That means in Sunday’s final, he will be taller than Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk (195cms) and goalkeeper Alisson (193cms) as well as United team-mates Alexander Isak (192cms), Martin Dubravka (190cms), Nick Pope (196cms) and Fabian Schar (188cms). Believe it or not, even Burn is topped by Chelsea goalkeeper Lucas Bergstrom, who stands at an incredible 6ft 9ins, or 205cms.
