How to watch Liverpool vs Tottenham for free as Newcastle await Carabao Cup final opponents

Now that they have secured their place at Wembley Stadium in the 2024/25 Carabao Cup final, Newcastle United will be eager to learn if it is Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur they will face.

Eddie Howe‘s side enjoyed a comfortable two-legged win over Arsenal in the semi-final. Meetings at the Emirates Stadium and then most recently St. James’ Park on Wednesday night were 2-0 apiece, with Anthony Gordon Newcastle‘s hero of the round scoring in both legs and it resulted in a 4-0 aggregate overall win.

The prize is a trip to Wembley on Sunday, March 16, where they will hope to go one better than the runner-up spot in 2022/23’s final against Manchester United. This time around it will for certain be against a new opponent.

The other semi-final in the competition is being contested between Liverpool and Tottenham, and it has not been settled yet.

Last month’s first leg in London saw the latter claim a slender 1-0 advantage on their own turf. The return leg at Anfield, the home of Liverpool, is scheduled for tonight with an 8pm kick-off time.

Not only will the eyes of Merseyside and the capital be on that fixture, but now also those in the North East too as the Toon Army wait to see who they will meet next month in the showpiece finale.

And thankfully, the crucial semi-final is available for all to watch on free-to-air television.

Carabao Cup matches are usually broadcast on Sky Sports, who have an agreement with the EFL, but in a new venture alongside ITV they are all aiming to give all UK football fans the chance to watch coverage of select Carabao Cup and EFL fixtures this season.

As was the case with Newcastle’s first leg with Arsenal, the second leg between Liverpool and Tottenham is going to be broadcast on ITV1. Coverage begins at 7:30pm, half an hour before kick-off.

Liverpool are of course the trophy’s holders, having beaten Chelsea in last year’s final. Arne Slot can take confidence from a number of returning players from injury this week despite his team’s disadvantage by the scoreline.

Tottenham meanwhile have been battered by their own fitness issues, particularly in defence, as they attempt to avoid conceding to set up the final with Newcastle. New winter loan signings Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso are available to play a part.
