Angel Gomes has given Newcastle United a major about his future amid ongoing transfer speculation linking him with a move to St. James’ Park. The England international, who is out of contract with Lille at the end of the current campaign, has been linked with plenty of Premier League sides including the Magpies.
His past links with Manchester United have also thrown up further speculation – with the 24-year-old impressing in Ligue 1. Gomes has played 133 times for the French outfit, registering 10 goals and 19 assists during his spell with Les Douges.
The Newcastle-linked star has now signed for renowned player agency ROOF ahead of the summer transfer window, and it is expected to be a busy few months for the England international.
Gomes was previously signed by Gol International, which counts Christopher Nkunku and Robert Lewandowski as some of the other athletes on their agency roster. Asked about his future last month, the versatile midfielder said: “I’m aware of clubs enquiring about my situation, but I’m now completely focused on Lille.
“I want to finish the season in the best way possible, and then we will see what happens. I’m focused on the present and not on negotiations.”
The news of Gomes signing for ROOF does not necessarily guarantee his exit from Lille this summer, but players often do so ahead of a transfer elsewhere.
Newcastle are expected to strengthen in multiple areas in 2025 with the onus on returning to the UEFA Champions League via a top-four finish.
The Magpies have been quiet on the transfer front in the last 12 months, with manager Eddie Howe admitting it cannot remain like that forever if his side want to see progression.
“We haven’t added (to the first team) in a long time in various transfer windows, for the reasons we’ve all discussed,” said the Newcastle boss earlier this year. “But we need to move the team forward – and we can’t lose our best players.”
