After he was asked about Fyre Festival, Ja Rule turned the tables on DJ Envy.
The rapper was a guest on The Breakfast Club on Thursday morning, and around the 47-minute mark, Envy asked Ja what he thought about the Fyre Fest II announcement.
The former Murder Inc. artist co-founded the inaugural event alongside Billy McFarland, which turned out to be fraudulent and resulted in a $100 million class action lawsuit. Ja was dismissed from the case in 2019, while McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison for wire fraud and ordered to pay $26 million in restitution. He was released in 2022.
But rather than taking offense to Envy’s question, Ja Rule referenced the DJ and radio host’s alleged involvement in a real estate scam with Cesar Pina. Envy called himself a “victim” of the situation at the time, while Pena accused his former business partner of being an “investor.”
“I’m glad you brought that up, Mr. Envy,” Ja Rule joked. “Remember when I was here around that time, and my good brother Envy was like, ‘Ja, how could you have a partner that’s doing some shit?'” he asked Charlemagne Tha God.
The comment drew some laughs in the studio, with Loren LaRosa asking “What is in this whiskey?”
“My brother, now you understand,” Ja told Envy. “I said, ‘Wait ’til I see this n***a here, boy…'”
Envy joked that Ja was “holding that one” after they’d recently run into each other “so many times.”
“It’s possible, right Envy?” Ja asked The Breakfast Club co-host in regard to Pina. “N***as be doing fuck shit behind your back, I swear to God.”
But Ja Rule explained that he’s learned a better approach to business deals post-Fyre Festival. “Now when I vet a situation, people don’t get mad at all,” he said. “People are very forgiving when it comes to how hard I’m vetting the next situation.”
McFarland said that the next Fyre Fest would be held in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, but the city’s government disavowed the claims earlier this month.
Elsewhere on The Breakfast Club, Ja cleared up rumors about 50 Cent being framed by Murder Inc and his thoughts on the music mogul trolling Irv Gotti‘s death.
