Holidaymakers on a flight from Newcastle Airport faced a disrupted start to their breaks after their flight was diverted to France due to a medical emergency.
The 8.40am LS547 Jet2 flight from Newcastle Airport to Tenerife took off as normal on Tuesday, but when a passenger took ill, it was forced to land at Brest Bretagne Airport in northern France.
A passenger on the flight told ChronicleLive that they were waiting at the French airport for at least an-hour-and-a-half before they were transferred to an aircraft coming from Manchester.
Information from FlightRadar24 shows that the existing flight from Newcastle returned to Manchester Airport and landed at 4.39pm.
Passengers eventually arrived in Tenerife shortly before 7pm UK time, meaning that their usual four hour 50 minute flight had taken closer to ten hours. The passenger on board said: “I feel sorry for the person who took ill and for staff who are now being sent back to Manchester and have to get back to their cars etc in the North East!”
A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “We can confirm that flight LS547 from Newcastle International to Tenerife diverted to Brest Bretagne yesterday (Tuesday, March 11), due to a customer requiring urgent medical attention.
“Customers were flown to Tenerife, and we would like to thank them for their patience.”
