Keke Palmer found an opportunity to revisit Claressa Shields’ beef with Remy Ma.
The feud stemmed from an incident last December where Remy, 44, and her estranged husband Papoose, 47, clashed on social media, accusing each other of cheating and sharing supposed evidence—including a photo of Remy with another man on Christmas and texts between Papoose and Shields, 29.
At the time, Shields claimed that the text message screenshot was fake and challenged the “Conceited” rapper to a fight. She would later tell Jemele Hill on her Spolitics podcast that she would fight Remy for $1.
On the latest episode of the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, Palmer spoke to the pro boxer along with Ryan Destiny, 30, who plays Shields in her biopic, The Fire Inside.
“Now when are you knocking Remy Ma out?” Palmer asked Shields, sending both guests into laughter. “Y’all know I had to bring that up, OK? Because the girls was tussling over the internet. I didn’t know if she was going to get knocked out, I was scared.”
“The internet is not a real place,” Shields said diplomatically. “Listen, I woke up that morning just as shocked as everybody else, like, what the hell is going on? I wanna promote the movie.”
Palmer and Shields agreed that the incident unintentionally gave the film more promotion.
“They say all publicity is good publicity,” Shields conceded.
Palmer also asked her guests about the fire inside them “that keeps you going in your crafts.”
“It’s such a loaded question,” Shields said. “People see me as just super confident all the time and just always tacking on my goals and stuff like that but I’ve been able to do that inside the ring. Outside the ring is a whole another fight, you know, as far as—the brands, the endorsements, the sponsorships, the look.
“It’s kind of hard not to have enough fire in boxing when they got girls come they gonna whoop your ass and they gonna knock you out,” T-Rex said further into the interview. “I kept it very simple. I said as long as I win, they’re going to keep talking. I beat this girl, I beat that girl, I get this title—you know, I tell this girl, ‘I’mma knock her out,’ and then we fight. And I knock her ass out.”
Earlier this month, Shields wished Papoose a happy birthday, writing, “So grateful for your life, your laugh , your music, your guidance, your love! You are truly 1 of 1! I pray God bless you with many more years & even quicker hands cause today you getting all your bday punches.”
