Kendrick Perkins Apologizes to Nicki Minaj for Saying She’s Not on Beyoncé or Taylor Swift’s Level

Kendrick Perkins has apologized for saying Nicki Minaj isn’t as popular as Beyoncé or Taylor Swift when speaking about the Golden State Warriors acquiring Jimmy Butler.

During NBA Today‘s trade deadline special this week, Perk expressed how underwhelmed he was by the Warriors trading for Butler. According to the 40-year-old former NBA player, he was expecting the Warriors to make a huge move by getting a high-caliber player instead of settling for Butler and used Bey, T Swift, and Minaj as examples.

“I was looking for the Warriors. I’m thinking they’re going to go out there and get a Beyoncé or Taylor Swift, but they ended up getting a Nicki Minaj,” said Perkins, whose NBA Today crew was shocked by his statement.

The Barbz caught wind of Perk’s comment and dragged him on social media to the point that he claimed he didn’t know about the infamous devoted fan group and quickly apologized.

“Wish I would’ve known about the Barbz before my Nicki Minaj take… don’t charge it to my heart,” Perkins tweeted. “My apologies, I don’t want no smoke!”

Perkins also expressed remorse during a broadcast of NBA Today, saying, “Let me apologize to Nicki Minaj and the Barbz. They been on my ass like pockets. I apologize, I’m a fan. Please forgive me.”

Butler was traded to the Warriors on Thursday and reportedly agreed to a two-year, $121 million extension with the team that will last through the 2026-2027 season. In response to all the chatter surrounding the trade, Butler tweeted, “welcome to the wild wild west.”
