Shoppers in Newcastle city centre looking around the Christmas markets this Tuesday lunchtime may have noticed a new instalment next to Monument causing quite the stir.

The windows – which opened in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle yesterday – will be handing out an estimated 12,000 mince pies and warm spiced tea for free, with visitors able to make a suggested donation of £1. Newcastle’s own window is placed at The Charles Grey and will be there until 7pm today.

While picking up a mince pie and brew, visitors can donate to Comic Relief to further help Sainsbury’s on its mission to feed over five million families experiencing food poverty this winter.
