Lil Wayne didn’t know about Gelo’s “Tweaker” song before he appeared on the remix.
Lil Wayne recently appeared on a livestream with Tyga — to promote the release of the latter’s new album, NSFW — where he opened up about his lack of familiarity with the viral song before he appeared on its remix. “I knew nothing about that until I was approached for the feature,” said Wayne.
“I do watch a lot of sports television and they were making a bunch of references to it and I didn’t know what the hell they were walking about,” Lil Wayne added. “I was able to put two and two together afterwards.”
Lil Wayne also explained how Gelo requested a slight change to the verse. “Shout out Gelo. You gotta let ‘em know how I had [to redo] my verse,” Lil Wayne said. “Gelo is demanding, by the way. These new ni**as! Usually, I’ll give somebody a verse, and, by the grace of God, they love it. That man called me and said, ‘Ay, man. Can you change this part, man?’”
Gelo revealed how it felt to work with Lil Wayne before the song dropped, telling Billboard, “We got Lil Wayne getting on there, Legend. The GOAT. You know I had to, for real. That’s like hooping with Jordan. No cap.”
“I hit him up on [Instagram and told him], ‘Your verse hard as hell. That’s what we [were] missing on our shit,’” Ball added. “He was a cool dude. He was like, ‘I hope you mess with the verse.’ He’s cool. But yeah – that verse is tough.”
“Weezy F., and the F is for features, baby,” Lil Wayne rapped on the track. “I went from the bleachers, baby, to beaches, baby/To each his own, gotta own, I can’t lease it, baby/I’m beastin’, baby, I beast like I’m obese and lazy/ And if they sleepin’ on a GOAT, they countin’ sheep then, baby.”
“Tweaker” is widely considered hip-hop’s first hit of 2025. It has entered the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at No. 29 on the Hot 100.
