Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan got real about parenting during heartache as she reflected on her child’s first major breakup.
The 59-year-old TV personality was back on the panel with Charlene White, Brenda Edwards, and Gloria Hunniford for Monday’s show (December 16), which took a turn into personal territory.
As they delved into Fearne Cotton’s recent split from husband Jesse Wood, Charlene steered the conversation towards how crucial it is for young people to navigate through the end of a relationship.
Coleen shared a touching moment from her own experience: “When my kids went through it, I remember one time in particular, I went upstairs and one of my kids was just lying on the floor sobbing. And I went and laid down with them and just held them, really.”
She added, reflecting on the pain of young love: “They were 17 and I knew they didn’t want to hear me say ‘you know this is probably going to happen ten times, you will get over it’ because when you’re young, you don’t think you will.”
Coleen recalled her own experiences with heartbreak and how it influenced her approach to comforting her child: “I remember going back to that feeling of when my heart was broken and my heart was breaking for them because you don’t want your kids heartbroken.
“But it was a lovely moment between the two of us and I thought, just let them cry and we’ll work it out day by day- however long it takes- and it will ease,” reports the Mirror.
Emphasising the importance of support, Coleen noted that while it’s vital, people often shy away from admitting that things might not work out.
Earlier in the month, Coleen made headlines with news of her split from partner Michael Jones after a three-year romance. The Loose Wo men sensation, who started dating the supermarket logistics man in 2021 following their sparks on Tinder, has confirmed they’ve amicably decided to call it quits but aim to keep the friendship alive.
Opening up to OK!, she shared: “We’ve decided that we would rather just stay friends, take it as a friendship. And, you know, it’s nothing to do with anyone else, it’s nobody’s fault.
“But I’m really busy and when I’m not really busy with work I’m busy on the farm and I feel personally that I can’t give time to everything. We still get along great and hopefully we can continue to be friends, who knows?”
Loose Women airs Mondays-Fridays at 12:30pm on ITV1.
