Lorraine Kelly took a brutal swipe at her ITV co-star Richard Madeley while hosting Have I Got News For You. “What fun we had,” the Scottish broadcaster quipped as she shared a clip of the scripted show.
Reading from an autocue on Friday night’s instalment of the BBC comedy show, she savagely said: “In other news, Rachel Reeves has been accused of lying on her CV. But we’ve all done that, haven’t we, for work purposes? For years, I’ve claimed to be friends with Richard Madeley.” The 64-year-old kept a straight face after reading the quip in front of comedian Maisie Adam, journalist Matt Chorley, and team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop.
Her fans praised the daytime TV legend on social media, with one writing: “Wonderful & funny as the chair, best episode so far of the series.”
Another added: “Absolutely amazing, lovely. well done. Loved it and adore you even more now.”
Despite the positive comments, other fans were not pleased Lorraine had the presenting gig. One said: “#hignfy being presented by Lorraine Kelly was as bad, if not worse than I thought it would be.”
Another said: “They really are not as amusing as they think they are, Dreadfully outdated dire TV.
“What has happened to the BBC they used to make funny stuff,” someone else penned.
Another added: “I remember when you were edgy and funny, this is just pathetic.”
Lorraine’s appearance on the BBC show comes following claims she and Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid were reportedly left reeling that ITV bosses are steering A-list guests to This Morning amid low ratings.
According to The Sun, Lorraine and Susanna have “been vocal” and claim they are missing out on interviewing huge names.
Meanwhile, This Morning, which is now hosted by Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, interviewed Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, and Meghan Trainor in recent months.
A source claimed: “Susanna has been vocal about wanting bigger names and is frustrated they’re going elsewhere. Lorraine has voiced the same view.”
They added: “It feels like big stars are being shipped to This Morning to try and pull them out of a hole.”
Susanna and Lorraine’s representatives have been contacted for comment by OK!
